Streator Community Center to host haunted house The Streator Community Center will host a haunted house in October at 125 S. Vermillion St. (across from Country Cupboard). Tickets are $3 for children 10 and younger and $5 for children older than 10. The haunted house is scheduled as follows: •Friday, Oct. 19: 7 to 10 p.m. •Saturday, Oct. 20: 7 to 11 p.m. •Friday, Oct. 26: 7 to 10 p.m. •Saturday, Oct. 27: 7 to 11 p.m. •Wednesday, Oct. 31: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The house will open at Downtown Trick or Treat for a free "lights on" show. Haunted Haystack rides will be on Saturdays at 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Cost is $1 per person or free with a Haunted House ticket. A Halloween Carnival will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the community center, 202 S. Vermillion St. Children up to fourth grade are invited to wear a costume and bring a nonperishable food item to receive free tickets for carnival games. Games are 25 cents each. Concessions will be available; guests can decorate a pumpkin for $2. Parents must stay with their children. Other October events include: •Friday, Oct. 5: Eighth-Grade Night, 7:30 to 10 p.m. •Monday, Oct. 8: Dodgeball Tournament at Streator YMCA. Cost is $5 per person to play; fourth- and fifth-grade division and junior high division. Teams need six players, can be all boys, all girls or co-ed. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Games start at 10 a.m. Prizes for first, second and third place in each division. •Friday, Oct. 12: Fourth-Grade Night, 6:30 to 8 p.m. •Wednesday, Oct. 31: Half-day event at Streator YMCA, noon to 4 p.m. Swimming, gym and more for grades four through eight.
