I was sooo glad to read this today! "Great News! Doug Potter, New Orleans bass player, is playing once again! Potter, who was hospitalized, in January 2014, after a violent attack left him comatose & hospitalized, played a 6 hour gig, on Bourbon Street tonight, without any apparent difficulty. Doug had no trouble remembering either tunes, or chord changes & was able to fully follow all directions & musical cues. He even nailed an original tune, that he hadn't played before (and did it w/out sheet music, being only given the changes, verbally, immediately before playing the song). While he only recently began speaking again, (& at times, does seem slightly frustrated in trying to fully express himself) he is still one of the best bass players in New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, or anywhere for that matter! Working with Doug, tonight, was a pleasure & I would fully recommend Doug, to any professional band, or musical ensemble, needing a bass player. I've known him, for almost 20 yrs, & he remains the consummate professional - on time & dependable, pleasant & easy to work with, and a solid musician!
